Sensei Leong Fook Weng, Bruce

Sensei Leong has had an impressive 30 years of teaching under his belt – coaching children, youths and adults alike.

 

His practical experience as a law enforcement officer, combined with his knowledge of various martial arts such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do (TKD) and self defence techniques, help him to be the best guide in the sport -  athletes have achieved complete sparring skills that can be applicable to situations outside of the dojo as well.

 

Sensei Leong is a proud holder of a Tae-Kwon-Do (1st Dan) and a 6th Dan in Shitoryu Karate, prior to training in Okinawa.

 

Sensei Leong now trains regularly under the watchful eyes of seven-time world champion and Japan’s Olympics Karate Coach, Sensei Tsuguo Sakumoto in Ryuei Ryu Karate. Sensei Tsuguo Sakumoto was impressed with his determination to learn the style and entrusted him with developing it in Singapore. Sensei Leong currently holds a 4th Dan in Ryuei Ryu Karate.

 

Sensei Leong is a qualified Asia Karate Federation (AKF) Karate coach and a World Karate Federation (WKF) accredited coach. He is also one of the national coaches of the Singapore Karate team (since 2020).

 

Sensei Leong has coached teams in local, regional and international competitions, including the WKF World Karate Championships, WKF Karate 1 – Series A, AKF Asian Karate Championships, SEA Karate Federation (SEAKF) Karate Championships, Commonwealth Karate Championships, ASEAN University Games (Karate) & Karate-do Union of Singapore (KUS) nationals - returning with medals in several of the competitions.

 

​​​Sensei Leong believes that age is just a number, and that even older folks can train in Ryuei Ryu Karate and master it if they wish to. His bright attitude and sociable demeanor encourage bonding with the students, and his expertise ensures that anyone who learns with him will have an enriching and fun time.

Senpai Shannon Leong

Shannon has been practicing karate since a very young age and has some eight years of teaching experience under her belt. 

 

Shannon is currently coached by seven-time world Karate champion and Japan’s Olympic Karate Coach, Sensei Tsuguo Sakumoto in Ryuei Ryu Karate. She has always put her best foot forward for the sport, and it ultimately caught the attention of Sensei Tsuguo Sakumoto, who noted that she had immense strength and willpower to improve and succeed.

 

Shannon is a national Karate Kata player and is currently a four-time National Champion. She has represented Singapore in regional & international competitions such as the World, Asian and Southeast Asian Karate Championships.

 

Her aim to keep pushing and improving herself showed when she won the silver medal in the 2022 Commonwealth (Club) Karate Championships; finishing in the top half in the 2023 World Senior Karate Championships; and winning the silver medal in the 2024 ASEAN University Games (Karate).

 

Being an avid martial artist and a sports enthusiast, Shannon had spent considerable time studying and training in some of them. Her previous martial arts and sports training include Wing Chun Kung Fu, Shitoryu Karate, Archery & Swimming – with awards and podium finishes in numerous competitions.

 

Shannon attained a Diploma in Sport & Wellness Management from Nanyang Polytechnic (Singapore) and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Business Management with the University of Stirling (Scotland). She has recently graduated from her Master of Science Degree in Exercise & Sport Studies with Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).

 

Shannon's passion to teach and impart her knowledge to the next generation continuously pushes her to un-limit herself in learning and improving. Her passion for teaching and guiding students with attention to detail, as well as her fun and encouraging personality ensures that everyone will have an amazing and empowering experience learning with her. 

 

Her motto? The only way is up, so never give up!
